Prayer Ministry Training

At Woodlands we want to cooperate with the work of God’s Holy Spirit and see lives transformed as we journey towards increasing Wholeness.

Prayer Ministry is an opportunity to encounter the power, truth and love of God as someone prays with you, discerning and passing on what they sense God has for you. This could be healing, forgiveness, blessing, encouragement or freedom.

Jesus said… ‘So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.’ John 8:36

‘God put his finger on very specific things in my life’

When does prayer ministry happen?

  • at Sunday services, in mid-week groups, and at many events
  • at our Wholeness Courses
  • by arrangement on a 1 to 1 basis

Who can be a Prayer Minister?

A Woodlands core value is that ‘everyone is a minister’. Anyone who has become a Christian and has had experience of the Holy Spirit has the power and authority to pray like Jesus did. We can all learn to tune in to the different ways in which God speaks to us.

How do I get equipped in Prayer Ministry?

Foundation Training Course
A great day, with the feel of a mini-conference, including teaching, real-life stories, worship, discussion and practice. Open to everyone, the course usually runs twice a year. It covers the basics of how to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit and looks at five key areas which regularly crop up in ministry situations:

  • salvation
  • confession
  • forgiving
  • healing
  • freedom

‘This has given me greater knowledge of effective ways of praying for others – purpose driven and led by the Spirit’

‘I have noticed a dramatic change in my thought life. I still occasionally get the thoughts but they don't seem to have any power. They don't 'stick' like they used to which is amazingly liberating!’

Gaining Experience in Prayer Ministry

If it is appropriate, the next step is to join a team which ministers during a Sunday service. You’ll be paired with a more experienced team member and a team leader is always around to give support and feedback. If you'd like to be considered for a team, please email Angela Moseley.

Ministry team members enjoy:
‘the excitement of what God is going to do’
‘seeing God at work in other people’s lives’
‘seeing others find breakthrough’

Further Prayer Ministry Training

This is open to those with some experience who want to develop the skills needed in more extended ministry times. It covers how to:

  • minister with confidence
  • share prophetic words
  • bring release and freedom from ongoing negative influences

Next training: begins Tuesday 10th October 2017

Advanced Prayer Ministry Training

A termly gathering for people who frequently face challenging ministry situations and offer regular 1 to 1 ministry sessions.

We believe that it really is possible to find relief and freedom from the issues which limit the fullness of life which God intended for us.

Everyone Gets To Play: Each one heard them speak in their own language, Dave Roderick (7pm)

When the Spirit fell on the first believers on the day of Pentecost, the most striking evidence of this new age of the Spirit was that they all spoke in other languages, reversing the curse of Babel (Genesis 11:7) and providing a vivid demonstration of God’s heart and commission for the Church to go to ‘all nations’ (Matthew 28:19). The Marriage Course at Woodlands

The Marriage Course is very practical, giving any married couple the tools to build a strong and healthy marriage that lasts a lifetime. Over seven evenings spent together couples talk about important issues that can get swept under the carpet in the rush of daily life.

Topics covered include: recognising each other’s needs, learning to communicate effectively, resolving conflict, healing past hurt, knowing how to make each other feel loved, relating to parents and in-laws, good sex, making time for each other and having fun together.

Privacy as a couple is always respected. There is no group discussion and no requirement to disclose anything about your relationship to anyone else.

What’s Involved?

Each evening begins with refreshments. There is then a talk followed by an opportunity to discuss the topic together as a couple.

The setting is welcoming, relaxed and unthreatening.

“Good to hear what your spouse really thinks.”

Who Is It For?

The Marriage Course is for any married couple who wants to build a strong and lasting relationship, especially:

  • those who want to enhance their marriage
  • those in the first five years of marriage
  • those at a challenging stage in their marriage eg. the birth of a child, a career change, teenagers at home, the ‘empty nest’
  • those struggling with issues in their marriage

The course, while based on Christian principles, is very helpful for any couple with or without a Christian faith or church background.

“It came as such a relief to know that other couples go through the same difficulties as us, every week we could identify with so much that was being said and could look at one another and smile or laugh in the knowledge that we were not alone.”

The Marriage Course is for any couple who wants to build a strong and lasting relationship; while based on Christian principles, it is very helpful for couples of any faith or none. Begins Monday 24th April

The cost is £30 per couple but we do not want cost to be a barrier to couples attending; please contact Mandy as we can offer assistance if required.

Privacy as a couple is always respected. There is no group discussion and no requirement to disclose anything about your relationship to anyone else.

Everyone Gets To Play: Each one the manifestation of the Spirit, Dave Mitchell (7PM)

In the era before Christ, the Holy Spirit was certainly present, but working sovereignly in creation or in anointing those few that God raised up for the purposes of his Kingdom plan. The prophets of old looked forward to a new age when everyone would be given the Spirit in the messianic kingdom. That is what the prophet Joel wrote, quoted by Peter in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost. The early Church was so convinced that the Spirit was for everyone that if the gift of the Spirit didn’t appear to happen they sent the apostles to pray (e.g. Acts 8, Acts 19). Bible Ref 1 Corinthians 12

Faith on the Frontline: Original Blessing, Rob Scott-Cook (AM)

The book of Genesis describes a context of work existing before the fall. Just as God works and rests, so human beings made in his image do so too. In fact not to have work is as much as a curse as the post fall drudgery of work. How do we find a blessing in the workplace and in voluntary vocations that speaks of us being made in the image of God? Download discussion notes

Kingdom Foundations (7PM Series)

In this series we take a look at some of the foundation ideas of faith that affect how we see the world and how we deal with tension.

KINGDOM FOUNDATIONS: Now & not yet, Dave Mitchell 07/05/17

A fundamental idea about the Kingdom of God is that it is about the ‘rule of God’ rather than strictly about ‘place’. A King may have a Kingdom by inheritance, but it’s only really his kingdom where he gets to rule in practice, where his will is done. The Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of Heaven as Matthew puts it, is imperfectly realised on earth. Israel was a pointer to this at its best but the Jews were still waiting for God’s kingdom rule in the time of Jesus. Jesus life death, resurrection and pouring out of the Spirit inaugurate (bring into being) the new age of the Kingdom. Yet there is more to come.

Luke 10:9; Luke 12:31; 2 Peter 3:11 & 12

KINGDOM FOUNDATIONS: Not eating & drinking, Joey Mitchell 14/05/17

One of the things that divided people as being in the family of God or not in Bible times was what and how people ate and drank. The Jews including Jewish Christians inherited strict food laws. Pagans often ate food that had been dedicated to their pagan idols and all religions had religious ‘feasts’ that were literally food orientated around sacrifices. The New Testament gives lots of time to this issue in seeing a new people of God come together from Jew and Gentile. Jesus emphasised that it was what came out of the heart, not what went into the body that was important in pleasing God. (Mark 7:14-23)

Kingdom Foundations: Not talk but power, Rob Scott Cook 21/05/17

John Wimber, the founder of the Vineyard movement, shared a prophetic word in the 1980’s. It was ‘less talk, more power.’ That might resonate with those of you who have sat through as many sermons as I have! In fact ‘power’ is expressed in many ways. Words have ‘soft power’. The verse we are looking at however contrasts empty words with genuine spiritual power and authority. Paul knew about spiritual power as well as words (he famously talked for so long at one meeting that a young man fell asleep and toppled out of an upstairs window, Acts 20: 9)

KINGDOM FOUNDATIONS: Not Shaken, Clare Thompson 28/05/17

All of us know people whose faith has been shaken, either through challenging circumstances, powerful temptations, or intellectual doubt. Things that are true however remain true. Real truth cannot be subjective. How can we so imbibe a real and true experience and knowledge of the Kingdom of God so that we are not shaken by the storms of life? Bible Ref Hebrews 12:8
