NEW TO CHURCH? FAQ’S

Church is a place for people to encounter God, and we hope you do, whether you are a regular church attender or this is your first visit. We know it can be helpful for people to know what to expect, so here are some practical answers to frequently asked questions.

  • What should I wear? Whatever you are comfortable in.

  • What happens when I arrive? You’ll be greeted by our Welcome Team, you can get a free hot drink in the Foyer if you’d like and then head into our Main Hall.

  • How will I know what to do, and when? Service hosts will guide and clearly explain what is happening when, it’s all very friendly and informal.

  • What is the order of the way things happen? Normally in our services there is a welcome, worship, some notices about things you might be interested in, then a bible based message from one of our pastors or a guest speaker, a bit more worship and then an opportunity for people to come be prayed for at the end.

  • At the 9.15am and 11am, where do children and youth go for their groups? This will all be explained by the host on the day, but normally groups start after worship. If you’re new and bringing children along for the first time, try to arrive early and say hello to one of our Kids or Youth Team. Just ask a Welcome Team member to point them out to you.

  • What is worship music like and should I sing along? We have a live band and singers at the front and the lyrics to the songs will appear on large screens, so it’s easy to sing along if you would like to. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard them before! You can watch our previous livestreams to get an idea of the sort of worship we do.

  • What is a sermon? This is a talk with a message, based on Bible passages. We have series so that over several weeks or a month, we work through interesting relevant topics. Messages will touch on everyday life and hopefully be inspiring and relevant to you.

  • Is there a collection in the service? Once a month we take an offering for a mission partner, so we can support amazing organisations in their work. It’s completely optional, you won’t be pressured to give. Find out about our attitude to giving at Woodlands.

  • How will the service end? We will go back into worship and there will be an opportunity for people to come have confidential, one to one prayer if you wish. Everyone is welcome, there’s no pressure. If you’ve never been prayed for, why not try it? We believe that God is powerful and our Prayer Team are all trained, experienced in listening to God and sharing encouraging words.

  • If I have a question, who should I speak to? Look out for one of our Welcome Team, they are there to answer questions and direct you.
