IJM is one of the world's largest anti-slavery organisations – with a mission to protect people in poverty from slavery and violence. It is estimated that there are 50 million people trapped in slavery today. 1 in 4 of those is a child. That's 12 million children: the equivalent of every child in England & Wales trapped in slavery globally.
Inspired by God's heart for justice, IJM is a movement of lawyers and social workers, advocates and survivor leaders, churches, champions and people like you and me here tonight, working around the world to bring freedom, justice, and protection from slavery and violence.
IJM works with authorities and partners to:
1. Bring people to safety from slavery and violence. In collaboration with local partners, police and governments, IJM has brought freedom to over 490,000 people so far!
2. Help survivors heal with trauma-informed care as they seek justice and rebuild their lives
3. Hold perpetrators to account in local courts, deterring potential traffickers and protecting other people from abuse
4. Strengthen justice systems, so that people are protected from ever experiencing violence in the first place
Bangladesh
IJM has just started working in the nation of Bangladesh. Initial estimates suggest that up to 50% of people in the sex trade in this country are children – which means there are up to 100,000 children being sold at any one time.
100,000 is about equivalent to the population of the city of Bath!
But as huge as these figures are, thanks to the support and prayers of churches like yours - IJM has seen slavery reduce by up to 86% in places they've worked. SO we can be confident that transformation is possible!
Transformation starts with operations to bring people to safety – like the ones we're inviting you to help make possible through your offering today.
Each operation can bring one, tens or hundreds to safety.
Thank you for your financial and prayer support which will have a tangible effect on bringing freedom to people's lives. Finally, if you would like to join the IJM in praying for justice, you can do so here or email contact@IJMUK.org.
