Big Society vs Big Kingdom

Who is going to make our communities better places to live?    How do you feel about the move to encourage local people to take responsibility for their own neighbourhoods?
The Big Society was the flagship policy idea of the 2010 UK Conservative Party general election manifesto. Its aim was "to create a climate that empowers local people and communities, building a big society that will ‘take power away from politicians and give it to people’”. Labour's Ed Miliband said that the Conservatives were "cynically attempting to dignify its cuts agenda, by dressing up the withdrawal of support with the language of reinvigorating civic society".

A Billion People

posted by Philip Jinadu, category:
news

We've set our hearts on raising money for the poor, the oppressed and the needy. That means that the money we raise is being split three ways - international development (the poor), global justice (the oppressed) and local concerns (the needy).

On the global justice front, we're partnering with Tear Fund to do something about the oppression suffered by entire communities due to a lack of access to clean water. We think it's profoundly unjust that nearly a billion people in our world don't have this basic human right. We're not happy that 5,000 children a day die as a result. It's 2012 and noboby should be dying because of dirty water and unsanitary living conditions.

Tear Fund have provided us with this video showing how Love Running money is going to be used to provide clean water for a community of around 6.000 people in Kigezi, Uganda. It's inspiring stuff.

Nigel had a hole in his life. A very small hole, admittedly, but one that left him curiously unfulfilled.

Then one fateful day, waiting for the Number 40 Bus, everything changed.
